It started off with a bang for us, with thunderstorms and heavy rain, long, long, overdue from July and August. I opened one eye at 2:22 to rain and thunder, and then again at 7 am to dripping noises behind the shutters. The driving rain hammered the windows so hard that a leak we never had before manifested. A trip to one of the bathrooms revealed water on the countertop and floor that could only have come from the vent above for the stack on the roof. Never happened before.
Outside, the wash was flooded, the driveway washed out again, we have channels in the yard where none existed and the sound of a small waterfall as the “lake” drains. Oh, joy!
We heard via social media some folks had difficulty getting to town and helicopters were surveying scenes of vehicles having to be pulled out of washes.
It IS time for change and the fun begins in the kitchen. It’s dark, cloudy and cooler, and that means it’s time to bake! Peanut butter cookies coming up—and for dinner—shepherd’s pie. It’s autumn in the valley, and T-storms are forecast into tomorrow. Here’s hoping, because we are beyond parched here and the shrubs are protesting despite the drip system.
Now that we have a break in the rain and I’ve a tea under my belt we’d best don our wellies and get the walk in. Back in a flash.
… later… it was a short walk, as the washes are still running across the roads and there is major asphalt damage from the sudden deluge heaving the pavement. Water moves fast here on the skirt of the mountain and new roads are required again. It’s not been anywhere near this bad in the past 15 years.
People were out walking, kids and dogs are playing in the mud puddles and folks pulled over to the side of the road to chat and figure out if they should turn around or carefully pick their way through the debris of the crumpled road.

Melania rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange this morning. Symbolic? Of course it is.
In my travels around the Internet I saw President Trump’s press conference with the Crown Prince of Bahrain, surprised that he spoke perfect English without any accent whatsoever. It was a lighthearted chat while POTUS answered questions from the press and the Prince supported him on multiple issues and laughed at the appropriate times.
And then I saw the “Howdy Modi” rally in Houston. Holy cow. An entire stadium full of 50K people and they gave the President a standing ovation. Historic. You might want to watch a few minutes, below. It was awe-inspiring and the crowd loved his commitment to address counter-terrorism.
I haven’t listened to PM Modi’s speech and it looks like it’s not in English, but a clip I watched with some text indicated the topic of terrorism on the part of Pakistan was addressed and the crowd rose to their feet, applauding.
The Indian people overwhelmingly re-elected Modi for a second term so it stands to reason that if they could get Trump and Modi together in one facility it would be a helluva show, and it was. No one wanted to miss that double-header.
Clearly, Trump has a growing list of allies around the world who are intent on ending conflict and building peaceful relations. We must have peace on Earth, and we shall. The People will rally around the leaders who offer peace, safety and abundance, and foster a climate of respect and reverence for all life.
I think the Trumpinator is going to blow up the next election. No contest.

(Monday morning in the UK) They grounded their 97 craft and left travellers stranded all over and they had to be rescued by other UK airlines. Some hotels held guests hostage because they are paid long after the guests leave by the travel company, not the guests, and with TC declaring bankruptcy they were afraid they would not be paid. That emergency was resolved and the guests freed. Crazy days, folks.
